Prairie Festival is Twelve Hills Nature Center’s celebration of the wild, wonderful nature growing right here in our Oak Cliff neighborhood. Join us for a free, family-friendly afternoon filled with live animals, native plants, storytelling, and good food.
What’s Happening
Native Plant Pop-Up Shop — North Haven Gardens
October is the best time of year to plant natives in North Texas — and one of the hardest times to find them. We’re fixing that. North Haven Gardens is bringing a curated selection straight to the prairie, so you can go home with exactly what your yard needs at exactly the right moment.
Live Hawks & Owls
Get up close with birds of prey in a live raptor encounter with Window to the Wild. These incredible animals are a highlight— don’t miss it.
Reptile Encounters
Meet some of Texas’s most fascinating reptiles and learn about the important role they play in our local ecosystem.
Ask-A-Master-Naturalist
Talk about our prairie with one of our knowledgeable North Texas Master Naturalists. You’ll never look at your neighborhood the same way again.
Storytime with Whose Books
Our friends at Whose Books bring the magic of reading to the prairie. A perfect stop for little ones and the adults who love them.
Activities for Kids
Art projects, hands-on nature displays and face painting — there’s plenty to explore for little ones and curious minds of all ages.
Community Partner Booths
Connect with local organizations like DFW Wildlife, Master Gardeners, Methodist Medical Center, RECPTA, and more, who share a love of nature, community, and the Oak Cliff neighborhood. Stop by to learn what they’re up to and how you can get involved.
Pizza from Cenzo’s Deli
Fuel up with pizza from the neighborhood’s own Cenzo’s Deli. Because an afternoon outside is always better with good food.

Prairie Festival is one of our favorite days of the year — and it’s made possible entirely by neighbors like you.
Summer Events at Twelve Hills Nature Center
Nature walks last approximately 1.5 hours.
Wear closed-toe shoes suitable for rocky trails, a hat and sunscreen.
Bring water and a snack. If raining, walks are cancelled.
Children are welcome. Please leave your pets at home.
